Understanding Sleep And Hibernate Power Settings On Your Computer

 by: Eve Larson

New computers come with two new power settings that may be unfamiliar to many people. The settings known as ?sleep? and ?hibernate? may sound fun and playful but can actually be powerful tools to extend the life of your computer, give your laptop a longer battery life, and waste less energy. Let?s take a look at how to get the most use out of these new settings.

Let?s say you?re going to lunch, a meeting, or going to run some errands, but will be coming back to use your computer in a few hours. You might want to turn your computer off so it doesn?t waste electricity, but your ?computer guy? (or girl) told you it?s dangerous to turn your computer on and off all the time, so what do you do? This would be a perfect time to use the ?sleep mode? on your computer. When you tell your computer to go to sleep, it turns off the monitor, stops the disk drives and saves its current state into memory. When you return, just touch your mouse or keyboard and your computer quickly wakes up, and you?re exactly where you left off.

What if you?re going to be away from your computer for a longer period of time but will be coming back relatively soon? This is when you should use the hibernate mode. Think of hibernate is a deeper state of sleep. In hibernate mode your monitor is shut off, hard disks are stopped and your state is saved. A major difference between sleep and hibernate is power consumption. In sleep mode your computer is in a very low power state, and can wake up quickly. In hibernate mode your computer isn?t using any power so it takes longer to warm up.

Some other tips you should keep in mind are always save your existing work before going into sleep or hibernate modes. Occasionally the computer will fail to wake up and you will lose any unsaved data. Laptop owners should also remember sleep uses power and will eventually drain the battery.

Learning Math and Dosage Calculations Using a Computer Program

Learning Math and Dosage Calculations Using a Computer Program

 by: Sue Peters

Introduction

In nursing particularly, absolute competence is a must as patients? welfare is directly connected to any action or decision that you take. Give the wrong dosage or medication and a patient can be killed. Naturally, this can have devastating consequences so it is absolutely crucial that you take all the precautions in keeping up to date and maintaining your skills.

Dosage calculations are no exception and the reported cases of medication errors on an annual basis is very high. Despite this, many nurses absolutely fear performing calculations of any sort! Why is this? Most likely because the calculations involve a knowledge of maths and maths can be a daunting task - especially if it has been a long time since you studied at school or university.

The reality of the situation however, is not as bleak as it often appears to nurses. To perform dosage...

Building A Computer Introduction

Building A Computer Introduction

 by: Chris Silop

If you are reading this article, you are probably wondernig, why and how do you build a computer. Building your own computer is more simple than you think and has many benefits.

Why Build A Computer?

Building a computer has many benefits over buying a premade. First of all, it is generally cheaper if you build your own than buying one. If you shop your components, your DIY(Do it yourself) computer will be cheaper than its premade equivalent. If you build your own computer, it will be faster than one that is premade, because most computer manufacturers use cheap components and try to cut corners to cut down costs. Additionally, your self built computer has more room to upgrade if you so decide to in the future. Prebuilt computers usually only have enough expansion slots for the components that are going to be in the computer. Because of this, your prebuilt computer will become obsolete sooner....

Computer Certification: Keeping Your Cool On Exam Day

Computer Certification: Keeping Your Cool On Exam Day

 by: Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

When you wake up on exam day, one of two things is going to happen. Well, yes, you're going to pass or fail. But what I'm thinking of comes before that, and has a lot to do with how you perform on exam day.

You're either going to have a tremendous feeling of anticipation or the dreaded feeling of being nervous about it.

Anticipation is a great thing to feel on exam day. You're driving to the exam center, excited about the exam. You're much like a football player, slapping another player on the helmet or the shoulder pads before the game starts. (Warning: Don't try this on the exam proctor.) You know there's a challenge ahead, but you're looking forward to it. In your mind, you're already victorious you're at the testing center only to make it official.

Conversely, there's nothing worse than being nervous or feeling unprepared before the exam. I've...

The Hidden Benefit Of Computer Certification

The Hidden Benefit Of Computer Certification

 by: Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933

The web is covered with stories regarding the benefits of professional computer certification, and most of them are backed up with salary surveys and the like.
While there?s certainly nothing wrong with making more money and having better job prospects, there?s one benefit of certification that many candidates forget about.

Confidence.

You can?t pay your rent with confidence; you can?t pay for gas with confidence; you can?t pay for ANYTHING with confidence, right?
So who cares, right?

Wrong.
The confidence you build from truly earning a certification, whether it?s an MCSE, CCNA, or CCIE, cannot be purchased, borrowed, or stolen.
It has to be earned.

What do I mean by ?truly earned??
First, I?m referring to those little documents out there generally referred to as ?braindumps?.
If you buy one of these...

The Right Amount Of Computer Time

The Right Amount Of Computer Time

 by: Steve Hall

In a country that settles each night in front of the television, it just seems strange that more and more people are finding the allure of the computer screen sometimes more important. There is no doubt that children do as their parents do. They enjoy exploring the vast world of the Internet. They are excited to get that new computer game. But, how much time in front of the computer screen is the right amount of time?

There is no doubt going to be a number of people that come out and say that children are spending far too much time in front of the computer. They may end up telling us that their eyes will go back or something. Regardless of what they will say, we know now that it is important to limit the amount of time children use the computer. We know this because we know that it just makes sense that children who play on the computer too much loose the physical aspects of life along with the...

Inkjet Printers: Stating The Trend Of Todays Printing

Inkjet printers makes use of inkjet ink which a very complex formulation that makes possible for the ink to infiltrate almost any type of surfaces. Inkjet printers are also commonly used by home owners as well as various businesses. The usual inkjet printers used are bubble jet or thermal printer that are best for everyday printing needs. However, when it comes to printing for the business industry although a bubble jet or thermal printer may do some of the easy printing jobs but for some of the complicated printing requirements like the use of codes and markings in order for prints to attach to certain materials like plastic, metal, cardboard as well as glass an industrial ink specially formulated for inkjet printers are required. The inks used on such type of printers are water-based coupled with a user-friendly print delivery system.

Are Color Laserjet Printers Worth The Money?

Are Color Laserjet Printers Worth The Money?

 by: Stuart Simpson

The next printer you?ll want on your desk is a color laser printer.
Forget those cheap outdated inkjet printers.
They are cheap for one reason, to get you to buy ink.
I?m not making that up.
It came right from an executive of a leading inkjet printer manufacturer.

Do you have a black and white laser printer?
These gems are the best for the home office.
Cheap, guilt free printing with high quality usually reserved for a large office.
The price is right on the home models.
You can almost buy one for the cost of a black and a color ink cartridge.

But let?s talk about color laser jet printers.
A color laser jet works just like a black printer except it has 4 toner cartridges.
Each one has its own life.
The base printers I was looking at had a recommended monthly volume of...
